ADJUSTMENT TO
MEDICAL ILLNESS

The diagnosis of a serious medical illness can present enormous challenges to coping, including dealing with difficult physical symptoms and treatments, experiencing sadness and loss at changes in functioning, and having legitimate concerns about what the future may bring.

Dr. Olden has particular expertise in helping individuals with the psychological issues that can arise following a diagnosis of cancer or other serious physical illness. She trained for several years at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Services in the use of cognitive and existential interventions for patients with advanced cancer. She has worked with individuals struggling with serious medical illness across the lifespan and with a variety of diagnoses.
